Obtaining Your Driving License A1
A driver's license is a crucial document that permits you to drive. You must enroll in driving school and pass both written and physical tests.
A1 is the first class of driving license that allows you to drive a motor scooter with 125cc and 11 kW. If you are older than 24 years old, you can obtain a full A category licence.
Training
The first step of your motorcycle journey is obtaining your driving license A1. You must complete a basic 17-hour course prior to sitting for your theory test or practical driving exam. You can finish the course at a driver's school or at a continuing driver training center or with private instructors.
During the course you will be taught the rules of driving and how to safely operate a motorcycle. You will also have the opportunity to practice riding your bike and improve your handling skills prior to taking the test. After passing the theory test, you'll then need to pass the practical A1 motorcycle test, which is administered by a certified tester. The A1 motorcycle test is comprised of two parts: a brief theory based test and a practical driving test. Both tests are given on the same date.
The theory test is comprised of 20 multiple-choice tests with only two incorrect answers for a passing score. The theory test is a computer-based test that is administered by the appropriate testing centre. You can prepare for the test by studying the Highway Code. You should also practice answering the examples of questions prior to taking the actual test.

After passing the theory test, you can then book your practical A1 test. You can then begin preparation for the test by gaining familiarity with the highway code, and then practice riding maneuvers like hill starts and lane changes. The test is a combination of Module 1 and Module 2.
Module 1 is an instructional module that focuses on off road maneuvers. You will be tested to determine if you can perform an controlled U turn and an emergency stop. You will be required to perform several controlled on-road maneuvers, such as a figure eight and a slower ride. You will then be required to demonstrate a good eye and anticipate road hazards.
After passing your A1 driving test, you are eligible to move up to A2 driving category. This is only possible once you've held your A1 driving licence for at least two years.

If you're a student you may have to attend training at an approved driving school to get a license for category A1. You'll also have to pass the theory test and practical exam. It is fully compatible with Vienna Convention on Road Traffic and therefore is valid in all member countries. The older booklet-style and credit-card-style licenses are still seen occasionally, although they're becoming increasingly rare.
If you're a novice driver, you'll have to take two practical tests (private roads and public) before you can obtain a licence. You'll also need to complete risk training and skid training. Additionally you'll need to go through an examination for medical conditions conducted by a medical practitioner. After that, you'll have to submit the certificate of successful success from the COSEVI.
